Monsters (testing) Empty
PostSubject: Monsters (testing)   Monsters (testing) Icon_minitimeThu Jun 05, 2008 1:55 pm

In an attempt to revive the place, I'm trying something different. It affects only the Roleplaying section though. People, instead of having to imagine themself fighting a monster that every members of the party must control, would have to BE the monster.

...once again my example would be easier to understand...

«Filifolia posts: Fillifolia goes to Suzu and attempts to smack her with his wings
Suzu posts: Suzu jumps back, avoiding to lose the few strengh she has left and throws kunais in hope to hit and take down the monster.
(...)»

Filifolia has his(or her) own space to post and reply, which allows a better interactions in battle, since it works the same way as if it was a fight between two people.

Of course, this involves new rules.

1.DESCRIPTIONS
Like people, Monsters need a description. For now, monsters' descriptions will be put in the same sections as human/elf/half-elf/gajuma/summon spirit's descriptions. Eventually, if the system works, a new section (which will be call «Ennemy Book») will be put for monsters descriptions
Unlike people, monsters doesn't have personalities (as rude as it sounds, it's true, besides you don't want to get attached to a monster) Their descriptions are then different. All that is needed to know from monsters are their name, their weakness, what they may drop after a battle and where they are normally from.

2.POSTS
Monsters only appears in roleplays (Filifolia cannot answer questions in discussion topics, that just wouldn't make sence). Monsters can't start topics, for the simple and good reason that monsters do not encounter people, it's the other way around. It's obvious that monsters aren't supposed to be someone's main account.

3.NUMBERS
Since there's a limitless number of the same kind of monster, someone playing as a monster actually plays all the monster of his kind, either at different topics or in the same one (or both if you have the time). You may meet Filifolia and have to fight 2 of them at the same time, or 4 (the maximum number of monster in a fight in 5 from what I remember). Be logical, Filifolias are small, they can travel in groups, but bigger monsters can't travel in big groups (5 Behemoths...that's death) Once there are more monsters, they will be able to team up (Filifolia + Mandragora)

4.DISTINGTION
It's then important to be able to make the difference between a monster and a person, even though some ennemies are actually characters (naming anyone might be spoiling). Creatures that can be encountered and that does not have personalities are considered monsters (which puts Mieu from Tales of the Abyss in the character section, not the monster one) If you're not sure, ask for some imformations, we'll do what we can. Bandits, ninjas and other random people that are encountered are not monsters (as common as they are)

5.ENVIRONMENT
Make sense, a Yeti can't walk near a volcano, the same way a Fire Golem doesn't get near a snowy mountain. Use your knowlege of your monster to tell where he can or cannot be encountered, or ask for information (or search for it).

6.TAMING (comming soon)
Eventually, monsters will be able to join people. For now it's just not clear on how and who can make monsters join people. It will ofcourse take an agreement between the monster and the character (if not played by the same person, but please try to interact with eachother instead of with yourself). We'll wait for Tales of Symphonia : Dawn of the New World/Knight of Ratatosk for more information.
